Huge Corruption Allegations Rock Athletics Federation of Pakistan, PSB Loses Patience

by KHURRAM SHEHZAD:

Islamabad — Pakistan’s athletics is once again under a dark cloud as serious allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption have surfaced against the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP), prompting strong anger and unprecedented action from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).
According to official documents and sources within the PSB, the AFP has failed to provide complete financial records of government grants amounting to more than Rs 100 million, received over multiple years for athlete development, international participation, training camps, and administrative expenses. Despite repeated reminders, notices, and extensions, the federation has allegedly been unable—or unwilling—to submit audited accounts, vouchers, and bank statements explaining how public money was spent.
PSB Issues Final Warning
Highly placed sources in the Pakistan Sports Board confirmed that several notices were issued to AFP during 2024 and 2025, but the federation continued to submit incomplete or unsatisfactory replies. The PSB, now visibly frustrated, has issued what it terms a “final warning”, making it clear that further non-compliance could result in:
Suspension of future government funding
Withdrawal of official recognition and facilities
Legal and disciplinary action under relevant rules
A senior PSB official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said:
“This is public money. Every rupee must be accounted for. Sports federations are not private fiefdoms.”
