By Islamabad – Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Forum (RISJF) strongly condemns the brutal attack on senior sports journalist Khurram Shehzad, who was assaulted by unknown assailants and sustained serious injuries.
Such cowardly acts against a journalist performing his professional duties are unacceptable and a direct attack on press freedom. RISJF expresses deep concern over the deteriorating safety situation for media professionals and urges the authorities to take immediate notice.
We demand the Government and law-enforcement agencies to:
- Ensure the best possible medical treatment and protection for Khurram Shehzad;
- Launch a swift, transparent, and impartial investigation;
- Arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice without delay.
RISJF stands firmly with Khurram Shehzad and his family in this difficult time. We call upon the journalist community and civil society to unite against such violence and defend the freedom of the press
