Audit Objections, Election Irregularities Put Pakistan Tennis Federation Under Scrutiny

KHURRAM SHEHZAD AWAN— The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has come under increasing scrutiny after recent audit and governance reports revealed multiple irregularities in its financial and administrative operations, raising serious concerns about transparency and compliance with national sports policies.

According to official sources at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the PTF is among dozens of national federations that failed to submit complete audit reports for the fiscal year 2023–24. The federation reportedly provided only bank statements instead of certified audit reports, in violation of PSB directives that require full annual financial audits.

A PSB official confirmed that only nine out of forty-three sports federations have complied with the financial reporting requirements, highlighting a growing accountability crisis across Pakistan’s sports governance structure.

In addition to financial concerns, the Islamabad Tennis Association (ITA) has alleged that the recent PTF elections were conducted in violation of the national sports policy. The ITA pointed out that the election proceedings lacked the mandatory presence of representatives from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and the PSB, and questioned the voting rights of certain affiliated bodies.

“These elections were neither transparent nor in line with the PSB and POA regulations,” an ITA spokesperson said, calling for an immediate review and possible re-election under proper supervision.

Observers fear that the combination of financial opacity and disputed elections could undermine Pakistan’s tennis development programs and affect relations with international governing bodies such as the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Sports analysts warn that continued non-compliance could lead to funding cuts or sanctions from the PSB, further stalling tennis development at grassroots and professional levels.

The PTF has yet to issue an official response to the audit and election objections. However, insiders suggest that the federation plans to submit clarifications in the coming weeks to address the concerns raised by PSB and ITA.

The controversy comes at a critical time for Pakistani tennis, as the country seeks to strengthen its infrastructure and expand player development initiatives following recent successes at regional tournaments.
