Sportsnaama Report: Atif Rana, CEO and owner of Lahore Qalandars, inaugurated Muslim Hands’ newly established cricket academy in Wazirabad, marking another milestone in youth empowerment through sport. In recognition of Lahore Qalandars’ contribution to cricket development, the academy has been named the Qalandars High Performance Centre, reflecting an expansion of the franchise’s longstanding vision of creating structured pathways for young talent.
The inauguration highlights the shared commitment of Lahore Qalandars and Muslim Hands to using cricket as a tool for opportunity and community development. Lahore Qalandars have been widely recognised for their work at the grassroots level, identifying and developing talent while creating platforms that enable young players to progress and fulfil their potential. A powerful example of this pathway is fast bowler Zaman Khan, who was originally introduced through a Muslim Hands in 2021.
Recognising his raw potential, Lahore Qalandars brought him into their development system, where he was nurtured through structured coaching and high-performance exposure. Since then, Zaman Khan has emerged as a star went onto play for Pakistan, representing the success of collaboration between community organisations and professional franchises in transforming talent into elite performers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Atif Rana said: “At Lahore Qalandars, we have always believed in the power of sport to change lives. I am deeply thankful to Muslim Hands for their faith, trust, and for recognising the work Lahore Qalandars have done in youth development. This initiative shows how cricket can go beyond the game to create opportunity, empower young people and make a real difference in society. It is an honour to be part of a project that aligns so closely with our vision.”
Syed Zia Ul Noor, Country Director, Muslim Hands Pakistan, expressed his confidence in Lahore Qalandars and its management, saying: “Lahore Qalandars have excelled in the Pakistan Super League, and we are honoured to have their CEO, Atif Rana, with us today. His leadership has been key to the franchise’s success. We take pride that Zaman Khan, our boy, was later developed by Lahore Qalandars, showing what’s possible when talent is identified early and nurtured.
“By placing our confidence in Lahore Qalandars’ management, and with stronger collaboration and enhanced facilities, we hope to produce many more players like him and provide young athletes with the professional environment they need to reach the highest level.”
