The Pakistan Tennis Federation is pleased to inform you that the Davis Cup World Group -1 tie commenced today 2nd February 2024 at the Aisam ul Haq Tennis Pavilion Islamabad.

• In the first Single match, Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Asiam ul Haq Qureshi in an exciting 3-set match. Aisam started off really strongly by taking the first set 76(3 ). The second set went to the wire again, which Ramkumar won 76(4). Aisam suffered a groin injury during the second set and was unable to continue his good form in the face of a resilient opponent.
• In the Second match, Sriram  Balaji beat Aqeel Khan 75 63. The first set was a closely fought affair, in which Sriram won 75. In the second set, Balaji was in control throughout the set to win it 63.

The doubles match will be played tomorrow morning at 11 am, followed by reverse singles, if required.

Islamabad :The tennis teams of Pakistan and India will compete in the Davis Cup Group One tie from today (Saturday). Pakistani tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq says that India should not bring politics into sports, Pakistan went to India to play the Cricket World Cup, it is hoped that the Indian cricket team will come to Pakistan for the trophy in the ICC Champions. Talking to the media on the occasion of the Davis Cup match draws in Islamabad, Aisam-ul-Haq said that politics should not be brought into sports, our cricket team has gone to India and the Indian tennis team has come to Pakistan, which is a welcome thing. Pakistan will come to play champions trophy, Aisam-ul-Haq said that India is a strong team, there will be tough competition from rival team in Davis Cup tie, Pakistani team can beat anyone, Indian team plays well on grass court.

The Pakistan Tennis Federation(PTF) has announced the Davis Cup team against India for the Davis Cup World Group-I Playoff tie scheduled to be held in Islamabad on the 3rd and 4th of February 2024.
The Pakistan Davis Cup team comprises the following:

• Aqeel Khan
• Muhammad Shoaib
• Barkatullah
• Muhammad Abid is the non-playing captain.

The 36^th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships was indeed a joy to have professional tennis at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad came to a cessation after a splendid and illustrious final day of tennis flurry and liveliness.  Ongoing tennis events have brought to the fore some astute and buoyant young ones who look skillful, talented, and gifted and are like to become an agreeable batch of tennis professionals speedily.

Islamabad Tennis Association is organizing continuously the 36^th of this prestigious national ranking tennis championship. More than 120 players were seen in action in four (6) events of Men’s Singles & Doubles and Ladies’ Singles, Junior 18& Singles Boys 14&Under and Boys & Girls 10&U Singles. Islamabad Tennis Association has the honor to organize 2 international tournaments, and 2 national and 4 local tennis championships in this calendar year in collaboration with the Pakistan Tennis Federation. A sum of Rupees Eight hundred and fifty thousand were distributed amongst the winners and runner-ups as Prize Money and Daily Allowances.

In the Men’s Singles Final, 22-year-old top seed Muhammad Shoaib of PAF beat Aqeel Khan in a straight set match which lasted over 1 hour 18 minutes 6-2, 6-4 to win the Championships.

Shoaib got off to a flying start, taking a 4-2 lead by breaking fist game of Aqeel Khan and kept the same pressure to win the first set at 6-2. In the second set Aqeel fought back but young Shoaib did not allow Aqeel to settle down and exhibited excellent tennis from the base line and break the 7^th game of Aqeel to build up the winning streak 4-3 in which Aqeel hit a double fault. Shaoib continued the same pressure and in the 10^th game he hit strong serve game and won the set by hitting Ace and clinched the Men’s Singles title at 6-2 6-4. The final match officiated by ITF White Badge Umpire Husnain Mehmood.

Earlier in the day, the Ladies Singles Sarah Mahboob clinched the title by eliminating up-comping youngster Amna Ali Qayum from Islamabad in a well-fought straight sets final.  Sarah won the toss and chose to serve. Both the players exhibited excellent game of tennis down the line and cross-court, Sarah took the lead 5-4 and broke the 10^th game of Amna and won the set at 6-4. In the second set both the players again played the marvelous game of tennis with the combination of excellent cross-court and down the lines. Sarah took the lead of 5-3 by breaking the 8^th game of Aman, but Aman fought back bravely and managed to level the score 5 games all by breaking the 9^th game of Sarah. In the 11^th game, Sarah took the serve advance and again developed the winning lead 6-5. In the 12^th game, Aman was unable to maintain her confidence and hit two double faults. Sarah took the advantage and comfortably broke the game and won the set and match at 6-4 7-5.  

In the Boys & Girls 10&Under Muhammad Arsh from Karachi won the title by defeating the 2^nd seed Muhammad Faizan in straight set 4-2 4-1.

Sayyed Mubasshar Tauqir Shah Addl. Secretary, Information and Managing Director PTV unable to come to witness the final due to an emergent official engagement at Ministry. Mr. Usama Azhar Director Sport PTV and Mr. Majid Bashir Senior Executive Vice President of Islamabad Tennis Association graced the occasion as Guest of Honor and distributed the prizes amongst the winners and runners-up. At this occasion Secretary PTF Col. Gul Rehman, Mr. M.T.Cheema, Senior Executive Vice President, ITA also distributed the prizes to winners and runner-ups.

The 36^th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships moved into the finals phase after arduous and effortful tennis playing activity at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad.

In the first semifinal top seed Muhammad Shoaib will vie for the top honor in the Men’s Singles final of 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships, after winning his semifinals against Muzammil Murtaza with a score line 6-1 6-0, whereas second semi-final will be played tomorrow (Saturday) 6th January-2024 at 10:00 AM between Aqeel Khan and Mudassar Murtaza.

In the Ladies’ Singles event, unseeded Natalia Zaman from Karachi caused a major upset when she eliminated 4^th seed Soha Ali in a thrilling three-set match 6-1 4-6 6-4 and moved to the semi-final to face top seed Sarah Mahboob Khan who conveniently won her encounter against Marrukh Sajid 6-0 6-1. Whereas Amna Ali Qayum beat Kainat Ali 6-0 6-0 and Sheeza Sajid won her match against Lalarukh Sajid 7-6(5) 6-4.

The best encounter of the day was played between Hamid Israr Khan and M. Hamza Aasim in the Junior 18&Under category. Top seed Hamid Israr struggled hard to win his match against talented upcoming youngster M.Hamza Aasim of Islamabad. In the first set, Both the players exhibited excellent game by hitting cross-court and down-the-line shots till the score reached 6 games all. The set was decided in the tiebreak, in which Hamid Israr changed the game plan and comfortably won the tiebreak 7-1. The second set was again marked in the same style and both the players demonstrated the high standard of the game of tennis. Hamid again changed the pace and strategy of the game plan, and managed to break the 9^th game of Hamza to build up the winning lead 5-4 and kept the same pressure in the 10^th game by hitting some excellent cross-court shots and won the match and set at 6-4, and qualified for the Final. The match lasted 1 hrs 40 minutes.

The second semi-final of Junior 18&U was played between Hamza Roman and Ahmad Nael Qureshi in which Hamza Roman faced some resistance to win his encounter in a straight set 7-5 6-4.

Islamabad 4^th January 2024:

The 36^th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships stimulated tennis activity at the hard courts of PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad during the course of the quarter-finals.

6^th Seed Mudassar Murtaza upset 4^th Seed Muhammad Abid (WAPDA) in a thrilling three-set match with a score line 5-7, 6-2 6-2 whereas top seed Muhammad Shaoib struggle hard to win his encounter against talented Yousaf Khalil in an exciting three set match 7-5 5-7 6-2.

3^rd seed Muzammil Murtaza faced tough resistance from 8^th seed Barkatullah to qualify for the semi-final in a straight-set quarter-final match 7-6(2) 6-4.

2^nd seed Aqeel Khan conveniently won his encounter against upcoming proficient Ahmad Nael Qureshi 6-2 6-4. In the second set which was marked with aces and long rallies and the score went up to 4 all as both players held their respective serves, Aqeel broke the 9^th game of talented Qureshi by hitting some winners down the line and forcing out the youngster in 6-4 by holding the 10^th game.

The semi-finals will be batted out between Aqeel Khan Vs Mudassar Murtaza on Friday 5^th January 2024 and Muhammad Shoaib Vs Muzammil Murtaza on Saturday 6^th January 2024.

In the Junior 18 & under category 5^th Seed Muhammad Hamza Aasim, the upcoming proficient from Islamabad caused a major upset during the course of his quarter-final encounter with 3^rd Seed M. Salaar Khan. In pursuit of his victory, he added his foot speed and topspin to make him a force to be reckoned with. M. Hamza Aasim managed to oust the 3^rd seed 6-2, 6-3.

The top seed Hamid Israr, 2^nd Seed Hamza Roman and 4^th seed Ahmad Nael Qureshi comfortably won their matches and moved to semi finals.

Islamabad:

Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex Islamabad.

A total number of 43 matches were decided on the qualifying day. The main draw matches will be played tomorrow at 9:30 AM. 20 players were accepted directly into the main draw as per PTF National Ranking whereas 4 Wild Card and 8 qualifiers completed the draw of 32. The Draw of Men’s Singles and Boys U-18 Singles and Ladies Singles were taken out by Muhammad Arif Qureshi, ITF White Badge Referee in the presence of the players.

According to the Men’s Singles draw top eight seeds are Muhammad Shoaib (PAF), Aqeel Khan (WAPDA), Muzammil Murtaza, Muhammad Abid (WAPDA), Yousaf Khalil, Mudassar Murtaza, Abdullah Adnan, and Barkat Ullah
