    Kirsty Coventry becomes IOC’s first female president

    The Zimbabwean minister Kirsty Coventry creates history to become the first ever female president of International Olympic committee (IOC) during the IOC session 144 held at Costa Navarino, Greece. On 20 March, 2025.

    Zimbabwean swimmer and sports minister Kirsty Coventry also becomes first African and youngest person to be elected IOC president. The 41 year old Coventry becomes the first woman and first African to the post.. She secured 49 votes out of the 97 electoral votes and win the contest with a huge margin. Now she will serve for eight years term and will took the charge on 24 June, 2025.

    Coventry defeated Sebastian Coe (eight votes), Johan Eliasch (two), Prince Feisal Al Hussein (two), David Lappartient (four), Juan Antonio Samaranch (28) and Morinari Watanabe (four) in the election

    President of Association of international sports press ( AIPS) Asia Hee Don Jung accompanying Secretary General AIPS Asia Amjad Aziz Malik and Member executive AIPS Europe Ioannis Daras participated in the opening session of the International Olympic committee (IOC) 144th session being held at Costa Navarino Athens, Greece on Tuesday 18 March, 2025.The IOC 144th session is organised for the election of New president of the IOC. There are eight contestants in the election for getting the presidential seat of the IOCThe session was opened by the outgoing president IOC Thomas Bach opens 144th IOC Session at Ancient Olympia paying tribute to Olympic history and expressing confidence for the future. In his speech he said “it is these values that make the Olympic Games unique. As guardians, it is our duty to unite around these values. These values that should always remind us: we are part of something greater than ourselves. This is why we always have to put values first. This is our responsibility: to carry these values with humble dignity and pass them on to the next generations”He added “The ancient Olympic Games came to an end when political and commercial interests took over and pushed the values of sport aside. For centuries, the Olympic Games perished into oblivion. It took almost 2,000 years before the Olympic Games could be revived by Pierre de Coubertin. When he did so 131 years ago, as a young man aged just 29 years, the values of sport were central to his thinking. He wanted to make the world a better place through sport and its values”

    Pakistan Olympic Association (|POA) has confirmed that two Pakistani athletes Muhammad Karim and Muhammad Shabbir will represent pakistan in 9th Asian winter games 2025 scheduled from 7th February to 14 February, 2025 at Harbin (China). Pakistan contingent comprises six member including two athletes and four officials. The Pakistan Olympic Association has designated Air Commodore Ashar Jamil, Secretary General of the Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan as Chief de Mission, Muhammad Abbas will serve as the team coach, Asma Akram will act as the safeguarding official , Rabbia Nasir, an official from the Embassy of Pakistan in China, has been appointed as NOC attaché

    Muhammad Karim will compete in Alpine skiing events on February 8 and 9, while Muhammad Shabbir will represent Pakistan in cross-country skiing from February 8 to 12. Mohammad Karim has represented Pakistan at the last three Winter Olympics – Beijing 2022, PyeongChang 2018 and Sochi 2014.
